Michael Symes (Prints and the Landscape Garden)
Michael is a garden historian concerned particularly with the 18th-century landscape garden in Britain and Europe. He has written books on garden history for both specialist and more general audiences, has contributed many journal articles and lectured widely within the UK and internationally. He has organised many study days and conferences, and is currently engaged in developing links with garden historians in other European countries.
He established the MA course in Garden History at Birkbeck College, University of London, and is President of the Birkbeck Garden History Group and a Vice President of The Gardens Trust. He has been an historical consultant for the restoration of Painshill since 1981.
